The mattress is an essential part of your baby's sleep. Your baby spends about 18 hours a day on his mattress during his first months. It is considered that a baby spends as many hours on his mattress in 2 years as an adult spends in 5 to 6 years.
To choose the right mattress for your baby, you need to focus on safety, comfort and the quality of the air he breathes. This way your child will be comfortable in his bed and will be able to enjoy calm nights with fewer night-time awakenings. He will thus be able to benefit from a quality sleep that helps his physical and psychological development.
Choose a safe mattress for your baby:
Choose a new mattress for each baby.
It is important to choose a baby mattress that fits the size of the bed perfectly. There should be no gap between the mattress and the bars of the cot. It would be dangerous to fill a gap with a rolled up towel or duvet. Choose a mattress with a thickness suitable for toddlers: a baby mattress should be between 4 and 5.5 inches thick. A thicker mattress will not provide any extra comfort.
Choose a healthy mattress for your baby:
To give your child a good night's sleep while taking care of his or her health, well-being and environment, choose a mattress made of natural materials. Unlike synthetic materials, they do not contain petroleum derivatives and are gentler on the skin. Our natural mattresses are guaranteed not to contain any chemical treatments or toxic solvents, so there is much less risk of an allergic reaction when baby comes into contact with the mattress.
Natural materials are more breathable, they ensure good air circulation between the fibres, so moisture is better evacuated and baby sweats much less, which limits the risk of waking up at night.
Our mattresses are made of natural materials such as TENCEL™ which is used in the composition of the mattress covers, wool, latex, coconut fibre. Natural materials allow excellent moisture evacuation which limits the proliferation of bacteria and dust mites. A mattress made of natural materials is therefore antibacterial and anti-dust mite without any chemical treatment.
The most famous of our mattresses is undoubtedly the Cocolatex mattress, a 100% natural mattress made of coconut fibre and natural latex. The combination of these two materials makes the mattress ultra breathable and naturally antibacterial and anti-mite. All Kadolis products are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, so they are guaranteed to be safe for health and the environment.
Our mattresses are easily removable thanks to a zip that goes all around the mattress. The cover is machine washable to ensure perfect hygiene. Regular machine washing of the mattress cover is much more effective than chemical mite treatment and much healthier for baby.
To protect your baby's mattress, don't forget to protect it with a waterproof mattress protector (also called a mattress cover). It is essential to choose a breathable mattress protector (also known as a micro-ventilated one). Avoid PVC mattress covers that block air circulation and cause your child to sweat and feel uncomfortable. Breathable covers are a good complement to the natural mattress, the combination of the two allows for good temperature regulation and good evacuation of humidity, so baby sweats less and sleeps better.
Select a mattress with a density adapted to babies:
Paediatricians recommend that babies sleep on a semi-firm density mattress, i.e. a density of between 1.2 and 1.3 lb/ft3 for foam mattresses. A mattress with a density below 1.2 lb/ft3 would be too soft and could be dangerous for baby. Mattresses with a density above 1.5 lbs/ft3 are too firm and uncomfortable for toddlers.
